Claes Brundenius

Claes Brundenius is Honorary Professor. He holds a PhD in Economic History from Lund University. He was working as a Research Fellow at the RPI already in the 1980s, and he has been a Guest Professor at Pittsburgh University and Smith College, USA. Between 1997 and 2003 he was Senior Researcher and Research Director at the Centre for Development Research in Copenhagen. His main interest is research and policy studies on the role and impact of STI policies and strategies in developing countries. His current work has focused on policy analysis of technological change and knowledge based development in developing and transition economies, notably in Latin America and the Caribbean, East Asia, and Africa.

Earlier in his career, Claes Brundenius was employed at the Directorate for Scientific Affairs at the OECD, dealing with human resources development and technological upgrading in member countries. In the 1970s and the 1980s he spent much time in Latin America (primarily Brazil, Cuba, Chile and Peru) as advisor to governments on development strategies. He has also done numerous short-term missions for agencies such as Sida, Sarec, UNIDO, UNCTC, UNDP, Danida and Norad.
