Carl Magnus Pålsson

My disciplinary background is in History of Science & Ideas. My current research interests focus on cultural adaptation of academic and other organisations according to policy demands; what processes are set in motion inside and at the interface of knowledge producing organizations as they become more and more interwoven with each other. An important aspect of this concerns political and historical dimensions in the development of policies to interrelate academic organisations and other actors. Those interests are also developed in international comparisons.

Being actively involved in the expanding internationalized market for educational services, I am also developing a research interest in the actual implications for actors (students, organizations, staff) in terms of “cultural encounters”; how can the diverse backgrounds of actors be used actively in order to improve quality; how can transnational organizational learning be improved and communicated.

Among further interests are the discursive practices evolving in the context of research and innovation policies, as well as the organizational set up and linkages among actors in that field. These and other research and teaching activities are taking place within the broad field of “Science Studies”, or “Science, Technology and Society” (STS).
